Arrows are used to point direction. In its purest form, an arrow may take a lot of shapes like a triangle, chevron, or concave kite, usually attached to a line segment or rectangle, and in more complex forms a representation of an actual arrow. The usage of the arrow as a symbol is thought to be less than three hundred years old – the typographical icon developed in the 18th century as an abstraction of arrow weapons.
Arrows signify direction, force, movement, power, and direction of travel. There is another alternative symbol for showing directions represented by a pointing hand.
